8 Ways to Lighten Up – Part 2

Last week I wrote about “8 Ways to Lighten Up (your body)” (read here) which shared ways to jump start your health and feel better this season.  But feeling healthier, happier and lighter is not just about changing your diet or exercising more – it goes way beyond that.

I wrote today’s article, “8 Ways to Lighten Up (your Life)”, to introduce other factors necessary to feeling good.

8 Ways To Lighten Up (your Life)

 

1.  Clear Out Clutter – in your home, car, office, yard, wherever!  Get rid of the trash, the things you’re no longer using or have out-grown, the piles of things you say you’ll deal with one day.  You know what I’m talking about.  Move this stuff along!  It’s an energy drain.  I promise you, you’ll feel so much better.

2.  Reduce/Eliminate Toxins in your Environment – replace the chemical-laden cleaning products, air fresheners, self-care products, plastics, yard pesticides and other products you have with more health-supportive options.  Change what you can control.  It’s good for you, your family and the planet.

3.  Address Toxic Situations & People in Your Life – I’m sure you’re aware that stress and negative emotions have a huge impact on your well-being.  Take steps to heal these situations or relationships.  Work on healing and resolving them, and growing into the person you want to be.   Plug those energy “leaks” that are sucking your vitality.

4.  Minimize Electromagnetic Pollution – especially where you sleep and work.  These are additional “toxins” that are under our control.  Use a headset with your phone.  Distance yourself from the strong fields of your computer screen and television as much as possible (need a bigger screen?).  Keep your smart phone far away from your head while you sleep.

5.  Lighten up your Head – free up space in that busy, busy place by adding meditation to your day.  It makes an amazing difference.  I love an app called Headspace – you might too.  Even just slowing down, closing your eyes and being really present for a few minutes in the middle of the day is refreshing.   Try doing it every time you go to the bathroom if that’s the only time you have to yourself.  Put a post-it note on your bathroom mirror or computer screen to remind you to slow down and be mindful.

6.  Make Time to do What You Love (or used to love) – get outside, be in nature, go out with your friends, PLAY, work in the garden, go dancing, go skating, go swimming, finger-paint, write, sing in the shower, sing in the car, volunteer to help those less fortunate than you. You might need to put this on your schedule to encourage yourself to do it.  And again, I assure you, it will make a huge difference!

7.  Try New Things – be curious, be brave, be adventurous and open-minded.  You have nothing to lose and so much to gain by trying those things you’ve always wanted to.  This expands and lightens your energy and leads to a greater sense of self, and a healthier self too.  Retire any “stick-in-the-mud” tendencies, any “yeah, but” responses, and be nice to yourself as you explore.  You can’t lighten up and be stodgy at the same time, so go for it!
