I talk a lot about toxins because I believe our everyday environment deserves more attention when we’re looking at overall health. Especially if you have an autoimmune or other chronic condition.
But here’s something I don’t suggest:
Don’t look around your house and suddenly decide you need to throw everything away.
If you’re already exhausted, that can create even more overwhelm.
Instead, choose one thing.
✴️ Maybe it’s your personal care products.
✴️ Maybe it’s cleaning products. (Your kids and pets are exposed too)
✴️ Maybe it’s fragrance. (“Fragrance” in products = chemical/fake)
✴️ Maybe it’s food storage containers. (Choose glass, not plastic)
✴️ Maybe it’s your laundry detergent.
Pick one category and ask:
“Is there a simpler, lower-exposure option I could eventually switch to?”
Then make one change.
That’s it.
You don’t need a perfectly toxin-free home.
You don’t need to become afraid of your environment.
You simply want to become more conscious of your exposures and reduce unnecessary ones where practical.
A helpful reframe:
Reducing your toxic load isn’t about creating a perfect environment. It’s about giving your body fewer things to deal with.
And remember that your body’s ability to process and eliminate substances is unique and specific to you. If you’re dealing with significant health issues, aggressive detoxification isn’t something to jump into without appropriate guidance.
Gentle and thoughtful is often a better place to begin.
One change.
Then another.
Small steps count. You can do it!
